Laboratory Technician

There is an opening for a full time Laboratory Technician in the laboratory of Dr. Malia Edwards at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Dr. Edwards and her team study the role of retinal glia and choroidal mast cells in retinal development and disease. The lab's primary focus is age-related macular degeneration. The lab utilizes a combination of human donor eyes, animal models and cell culture experiments.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

* Assisting with real time PCR, immunohistochemistry, ELISAs and Western blots.

* Assisting with data analysis as well as solution preparation in the laboratory and image analysis.

* The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and a strong desire to learn new skills. They will have the ability to follow precise instructions and work well with the members of the laboratory team.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

* Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred.

* Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.40 - $23.25 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
