Position and Qualifications
The Chair of Economics and Business will be responsible for shaping and enacting a strong and distinctive vision for the undergraduate study of business within an established liberal arts context. The chair will bring an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit to the business program at a thriving womens college, ensuring close collaboration with the Batten Leadership Institute and other academic programs across campus, seeking to infuse business and leadership skills into students learning experiences. The chair will also lead the business major to emphasize social entrepreneurship, financial planning, nonprofit management, leadership, and real-world experiences, supporting the development of future women leaders in business.
This position carries a reduced teaching load equivalent to three courses per academic year to allow for significant administrative leadership. The chair will also contribute to the universitys general education core curriculum, including courses such as Purpose, First-Year Foundations (FYF), and Climate, Communities, and Care.
The chair will report to the Associate Provost for Curriculum and Faculty Engagement and collaborate extensively with colleagues across Enrollment, Student Success, Career and Life Design, Global Learning, the Batten Leadership Institute, Graduate Programs and Continuing Studies, and faculty leading certificate programs.
The ideal candidate will hold a terminal degree (Ph.D., D.B.A., or equivalent) in business or a closely related field. A record of teaching excellence and administrative leadership at the college level is required. Preferred qualifications include expertise in one or more of the following areas: marketing, digital marketing, nonprofit management, finance, management, or business and the arts.
