About the Ballers

The Oakland Ballers are a professional baseball team in Oakland, CA, and are part of the independent Pioneer Baseball League. Position Description

This is a full-time position based in Oakland, CA. Work will be mainly remote during the offseason and in-person at the ballpark during the season. The Director Of Fan Entertainment has 2 primary responsibilities: (1) producing short form video content for the Ballers and (2) creating the most exciting, innovative, and singular in-game show in all of baseball.

  1. Video Content
The Director of Fan Entertainment develops, produces, and edits short form video content that is customized for Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, and Facebook. Every video we produce has a unique set of goals, which might include telling the Ballers story, marketing season tickets or a specific game, highlighting a community partnership, giving love to a sponsor, or giving our audience an inside glimpse into the Ballers world. The Director of Fan Entertainment works closely with the Social Media Manager to develop and create content across our social channels.

  1. In-Game Show
The Director of Fan Entertainment is in charge of developing and producing the in-ballpark show that takes place during all 48 home games at Raimondi Park between May and September. This "in-ballpark show" refers to the pre-game show on the field, the entertainment that takes place in between innings, community activations on the concourse, and any other gameday entertainment that enriches the fan experience. The Director Of Fan Entertainment also coordinates production of the gameday broadcasts on FloSports and our audio stream. The Director Of Fan Entertainment reports to the Chief Experience Officer, and works closely with the GM (who leads community relations) and the Head Of Sponsorships.Because the Oakland Ballers gameday show leans heavily on celebrating local community groups, the Director Of Fan Entertainment works closely with the GM and our community partners to develop and execute engaging gameday activations that highlight these groups. At the same time, the Director Of Fan Entertainment works with the Head Of Sponsorship to develop and execute engaging gameday activations with sponsors.During the baseball season (May-Sept), this position is the director and producer of the gameday entertainment. The Director Of Fan Entertainment will be responsible for directing the flow of the game and fan experience in the ballpark through effective communication and coordination with the game production team, the entertainment team, and the broadcasters. This includes creating scripts, developing content and special activations along with the team, preparing special show "moments" and all types of in-game activations, managing timing, and spearheading in-game transitions.

The job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Creating engaging short-form video content about the Oakland Ballers including marketing videos, brand videos, and emotionally resonant storytelling around the players, the team, the community, and Oakland.
  • Coming up with creative games, performance/cameos, videos, and activations of all kinds to engage our fans during 2.5 minute programming slots between innings
  • Researching fan experience from other sports teams to draw inspiration as we continue to develop the Oakland Ballers game experience.
  • Developing and executing repeatable formats, rituals, and cheers that are authentic to the Oakland fanbase in order to keep all fans actively engaged throughout the game.
  • Work with the Chief Experience Officer, the GM, and the Head Of Sponsorship to build the gameday programming schedule
  • Work with the GM and community partners to develop and activate innovative fun programming highlighting community partners during games.
  • Work with the Head Of Sponsorship to develop and activate innovative programming highlighting sponsors during games
  • Work with the Chief Experience Officer to create game day scripts.
  • Build the staff for the audio and video broadcast
  • Lead pre-game production meeting and event run-through.
  • Ensure all elements of the game are executed according to the script.
  • Communicate with the production management team to ensure seamless and smooth transitions.
  • Call cues and give verbal instructions to the event staff, entertainment, and performers.
  • Coordinate and direct on-field promotions and other elements of the game.
  • Monitor the progress of the game and make real-time decisions on music, on-field and in standspromotions, and other elements to maintain game flow and enhance the spectator experience.
  • Maintain a clear line of communication with the management, production staff, event performers, and other members of the production team to resolve any issues that arise during the game.
  • Schedule and supervise all entertainment team game day staff.
  • Oversee who has physical access to our Pressbox.
  • Manage technical staff in audio, graphics, and video production, to make sure they are on task, resourced, equipped, and to make sure that their technical inventories are tracked and secured.
  • Cross-train on graphics-switcher, audio-mixer, and camera operation to help troubleshoot, mentor, and manage staff.
  • Developing and producing video content around fan experience, Raimondi Park, and the team.
Qualifications
  • A great sense of humor, the ability to tell a story, and limitless creative energy.
  • Ability to write, produce, shoot, and edit short-form videos.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Demonstrated creative producer experience developing sticky, compelling, entertaining, and memorable "moments" - either via live events or broadcast.
  • Television and/or radio broadcast experience.
  • Experience in live event production or broadcasting - ideally in sports.
  • Strong baseball knowledge - knowledge of baseball rules and deep understanding of game flow.
  • Experience in show calling, live production, event management, or similar roles is a big plus.
  • Excellent verbal communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to think on your feet, make quick decisions, and adapt to change.
  • Ability to think creatively and contribute to the creation of the fan experience.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well within a team - and to lead a team.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing other staff.
  • Affinity for audio/visual technical production oversight.
SALARY BAND: $60,000 to $80,000 / year, depending on a number of factors including work experience and qualifications.
