Job Description:

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin July 1, 2025. We welcome applicants who work in the field of social inequality, with a focus on applied research or social policy. PhD or ABD required.

Substantive research areas are open in any specific subfield of social inequality that helps to meet the curricular needs of the department. Areas of interest that would complement and expand our existing course offerings include Crime and Deviance; Gender, Family, and Sexuality; Social Psychology, Media, Technology; Urban Studies; Labor and Work. A methodological orientation that includes ethnography, and/or an interactionist approach are welcome.

The applicant must have a strong commitment to research and undergraduate teaching. Candidates with a research program that can accommodate and encourage undergraduates in research are encouraged. We a have a strong commitment to engagement and inclusion of diverse audiences in higher education and are seeking candidates whose research, teaching and/or service could contribute to our commitment to inclusive excellence.

Tenure-track candidates are required to submit statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) research interests, and (3) a statement about mentoring a diverse student body. The successful candidate will teach four courses per year (2-2) and is expected to teach at every level of the curriculum. Applicants should submit all materials by October 1, 2024. Mount Holyoke is an undergraduate liberal arts college with 2,200 students and 220 faculty. Mount Holyoke College is located about 90 miles west of Boston in the Connecticut River valley, and is a member of the Five College Consortium consisting of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts.
